Termite Inspections
Because of the high risk of termite attack to dwellings in Australia, Australian Standards 3660 series recommends that termite inspections be carried out 'at intervals not exceeding 12 months, with more frequent inspections recommended when the termite risk is considered to be high'.
Under As 3660, 'all readily accessible timbers on the property' need to be inspected, including outside buildings, tree's and fences.
The aim of the inspection is to not only indicate the presence of termite activity within the property, but to also identify any 'conducive' conditions of the property which may encourage termite activity such as excessive moisture, garden beds in close proximity to the dwelling, ineffective ant caps, timbers in ground contact and poor drainage and/or ventilation, just to name a few.
Having regular termite inspections is the first step in ensuring that termites don't eat you out of house and home, literally.
